Betty was born March 23, 1929, the daughter of George and Barbara (Hopkins) Fanta in Crystal Springs, North Dakota. She graduated from Tappen High School in 1947. She moved to Bismarck, North Dakota, where she modeled for Montgomery Ward.
Betty married Maynard Alsleben on November 9, 1952 and they made their home in St. Paul. Betty worked for Miller Hospital for a while and for Unisys for 29 years. Betty and Maynard retired and moved to Alexandria in 1988. While living in Alexandria, Betty volunteered her time at the Douglas County Hospital and at Calvary Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Maynard Alsleben of Alexandria; son, Corwin (Lucy) Wallner of Branson, Missouri; daughter, Kim (Sean) Fechner of Minnetonka; two grandchildren, Michele (Michael) Powell of Rochester and Charlena Penn of Kenyon; three great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Davis, Delaney Lewis and Evan Lewis; brother, Donald (Marcia) Fanta of Tappen, ND; sisters, Ardella (Gilbert) Voss of Breckenridge and Marilee (Willard) Domier of Henning.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Norlyn Fanta and Kenneth Fanta.
A funeral service was held Monday, February 18 at Calvary Lutheran Church with the Rev. Hans Dahl officiating. Sandy Buckner was the organist. Interment was at Kinkead Cemetery. Casket bearers were Michael Powell, Willard Domier, Casey Fanta, Gilbert Voss, Darren Nelson and Cheryl Doose.
