To the editor:
The Alexandria Sertoma Club would like to thank all the volunteers, sponsors, businesses and the community that helped make the 2013 Ice Fishing Challenge another successful tournament.
It was a fun-filled day with warmer temperatures that brought just over 1,900 people to Lake L’Homme Dieu. There were more than 300 fish caught during the tournament, with 34 fish caught that weighed over 1 pound. Congratulations to Chad Malvin from Carlos who caught a 3.91 pound northern and brought home the $20,000 top prize. Congratulations also to Nicole Nettleton from Alexandria, who won the $5,000 raffle.
We also had a successful Youth Fishing Expo thanks to Mike Frish, a local professional fisherman. He helped teach more than 15 kids some techniques of fishing. The kids had a lot of fun catching six fish.
Besides the fishing we had some great moments on the ice with one of the vendors losing a $100 bundle of $1 bills. One of the fishermen found the bundle of cash and turned it into our event staff and it was given back to the vendor with a big sigh of relief. A depth finder was found, turned in and given back to the rightful owner. It is wonderful to see people come out and having a great time but also helping each other.
We are excited to have raised money that we can give back to local charities, local community projects, and helping people in need with hearing and speech issues.
Thank you for all the support of the Alexandria Sertoma Club and the Ice Fishing Challenge.

2013 Ice Fishing Chair
