Boys' basketball: Minnewaska wins three

Minnewaska picked up wins over Montevideo, Hancock and Lac qui Parle Valley this past week.

WASKA 67, MONTE 57

Isaiah Adams dropped in 14 points and nine rebounds to lead the Lakers to a 67-57 win over Montevideo Tuesday night in a game rescheduled from January, helping Minnewaska improve to 9-11 on the season.

In all, six Minnewaska players hit double figures as Jayden Beecher had 12, Austin Lieser 11, Jake Amundson 10, Austin Giese 10 and Austin Ostrander 10.

Those six countered a 23-point performance from Thunder Hawk Jordan Thompson.

Minnewaska led by 17 at halftime, before Montevideo outscored the Lakers 33-26 in the second half.

Minnewaska now has to face Class AA’s No. 1 team, Melrose, tonight, Friday on the road, and will be at Paynesville on Tuesday.

The Lakers turned a 45-42 halftime lead into a 72-64 win over Hancock Saturday afternoon as Austin Lieser led his squad to the win with 29 points.

Lieser was 6-for-8 from 3-point range and hit all three of his free throws, pulling down five rebounds and blocking one shot. Austin Giese and Austin Ostrander had 13 apiece, with Isaiah Adams dropping in 10 as Minnewaska improved to 8-11 on the season. Adams also had 10 rebounds and Giese contributed seven assists.

The Lakers had a nine-point halftime lead, but Lac qui Parle Valley stifled the Laker offense in the second half, allowing Minnewaska just 24 points before the Lakers held the Eagles off for the win.

Giese had 18 points, Ostrander 16, and Lieser and Amundson 13 apiece in the win. Ostrander finished the night with a double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds. Giese added five assists and joined Lieser and Amundson with two steals apiece.
