Alexandria freshman Jack Schneider cemented his place as one of the top Alpine skiers on the Minnesota high school scene by placing 18th at the state meet on Wednesday.
Schneider finished with a strong second run of 39.43 seconds. That came after he finished in 40.37 on his first run for a total time of 1:19.80.
The winner, Michael Murray of Bloomington Jefferson, finished in a time of 1:13.67. The Blake School of Minneapolis finished with the overall team title on the boys’ side.
It was the first of what Schneider hopes is many state meet appearances for him. Wednesday’s issue of the Echo Press incorrectly stated that this was his second straight trip. It was actually the second straight year that the Lakes Area Alpine team has sent a skier to state. Wheaton’s Wolfgang Brink qualified last season.
Schneider finished eighth at the Section 5 meet last week before wrapping up a strong freshman season with a top-20 finish at state.
