Alexandria boys' basketball: Cardinals dominate Morris
Alexandria picked up its seventh win of the season with a 72-50 victory over the TigersBy: Lori Mork, Alexandria Echo Press
It was a big win for the Cardinal boys Tuesday night, shutting down a 15-5 Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta team 72-50, giving Alexandria head coach and Morris native Forrest Witt a victory on his old home court.
The Cards took control of the game after just five minutes, and never allowed Mark Torgerson’s squad to get in the flow as Alexandria used its half-court defense and ball movement against the Tigers’ zone defense, cruising to a 34-20 halftime lead.
“The Cardinals’ team defense forced tough shot attempts by Morris and cleaned up the defensive glass,” said Witt.
“Throughout the second half, Alex continued to dictate tempo with its defense, stretching the lead to as many as 28. Each player saw court time in the win.”
Three players hit double figures for the Cardinals as Logan Doyle notched a double-double with 22 points, 16 in the second half, and 14 rebounds, while John Vogeler dropped in 15 points and David Krivanek 13.
Alexandria also had five different players hit three-pointers – Brandon Bistodeau, Kevin Setterstrom, Vogeler, Krivanek and Doyle.
Alex is back in action hosting Sauk Rapids-Rice on Thursday night.
