Snowboarders successful at Midwest meets

Two Alexandria area snowboarders earned top honors at the United States of America Snowboard Association (USASA) slopestyle competition at Hyland Hills in Bloomington Sunday, and two claimed championship honors in the double event at the Wild Mountain competition February 2-3.
Ella Sorenson was first in all three of her outings, finishing tops in the Grommet Girls Division (ages 8-9).
George Cavers was first at the Hyland Hills event in the 7-younger division for boys, with Cole Sorenson claiming first in the Menehune Boys division (ages 10-11) on day one at Wild Mountain.
After the three competitions, Foundation 725 has six athletes ranked in the top 50 for the USASA national rankings.
E. Sorenson is ranked No. 3, Cole Cavers is No. 7, S. Hegg is No. 9, L. Hegg No. 13, G. Cavers No. 15 and Connor Cavers is No. 49.
National rankings are compiled using the competitor’s top three places in regional competitions.
The top-ranked competitor for each age bracket in the region and the top 50 national competitors in each discipline receive an invitation to compete at the national championships at Copper Mountain, Colorado March 30 through April 9.
Competitors have one more opportunity to improve their national raking at the final slopestyle event March 3 at Spirit Mountain in Duluth.
Foundation 725 is a snowboarding team that trains at Andes Tower Hills near Alexandria.
