Alzheimer's Association hosts education series

A new four-month education series featuring information about memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias will kick off in Alexandria on Thursday, March 14.

The series will run monthly through Thursday, June 13.

Get the Facts education series, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter, is designed to provide information and education.

It will raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias.

Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and is now the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.

As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond the estimated 5.2 million Americans currently living with the disease.

In Minnesota alone, there are nearly 100,000 people living with Alzheimer’s.

“We want people to know there is help and hope for those living with memory loss and for their caregivers and extended family,” said Jess Steinbrenner, regional care consultant for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Scheduled presenters include Steinbrenner and other staff from the Alzheimer’s Association, a panel of persons diagnosed with early-stage dementia, and health care professionals.

The classes are free and open to the public. Classes will be held the second Thursday of each month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Public Works Facility, 526 Willow Drive, Alexandria:

Pre-registration is not required. Individuals may attend one, several, or all of the classes.
