Boys' basketball: Zimmerman helps WCA split in Prairie Conference

West Central Area had five players hit double figures as the Knights picked up a 78-49 road win over Eagle Valley Saturday.

“We had a really nice run to start the second half to build a nice 20-point lead and we had balanced scoring,” said head coach Kraig Hunter. “We also had a lot of good contributions from Andrew Lindor, Jared Oachs and Austin Hennen. Austin also had four assists to go along with Drew’s eight to give us 12 assists from the point guard position.”

Jay Zimmerman led the Knights with 16 points, while Drew Peterson had 15, Dakotah Kashmark 14, Brady Combs 12 and Austin Redepenning 9. Lindor had four points, Alex Toms 3, Hennen 2, Hunter Pfingsten 2 and Oachs 1.

Kashmark had a double-double on the night with 11 rebounds.

SWANVILLE 63,

WCA 58

Swanville grabbed a 25-19 halftime lead and held off a charging Knight team, defeating West Central Area 63-58 Friday night.

“Swanville used two big runs in the game to secure the win,” said Hunter. “With the Knights leading 11-7, Swanville went on an 18-2 run to take a 25-13 lead.”

The Knights closed out the first half by scoring the final six points, then outscored the Bulldogs 27-17 in the second half to regain the lead 46-42.

“Swanville then went on their second big run, 13-2 this time, to take a 55-48 lead and go on to win 53-58,” said the coach. “Swanville outworked us and won the hustle plays and toughness plays, and that is unacceptable to us. That is going to have to change.”

Jay Zimmerman led the Knights with 14 points and 13 rebounds, adding seven blocked shots and five steals.
