The Osakis boys’ basketball team has been in definite need of a boost and a couple seniors provided that to help the Silverstreaks to their second win of the season on Tuesday night.

Kilar Zimmel had a career night with 34 points on 12-of-22 shooting. Zimmel got hot behind the three-point line, draining 6-of-11 attempts as he led Osakis to a 63-53 win over conference foe Royalton. Doug Zimmel added 12 points to go along with five rebounds and four steals.

“We had great senior leadership with the two Zimmels tonight,” head coach Matt Hoelscher said. “Kilar led the way with 34 and Douglas had great court awareness with his passing. Our goal was to stop [Matt] Silbernick and make other guys beat us. For the most part, that worked in our favor.”

Osakis led by six at the break. Closing strong in the second half has been a problem for this team, but the Silverstreaks had no such problems against the Royals. They put together one of their better halves of the winter with 40 points.

“Drew Fearing had a great game offensively by creating things off the dribble and kicking it out to open shooters,” Hoelscher said. “He also battled in the post with guys that are stronger and taller than him.”

Fearing finished with four assists and four rebounds to go along with his eight points. Osakis also limited its turnovers to just seven, while creating 10 steals on defense.

The Silverstreaks will try to build on this win when they go to Long Prairie to take on the Thunder tonight, Friday. They will then go to Evansville next Tuesday to take on the Chargers.
