Minnewaska girls' basketball: Lakers drop two

Minnewaska falls to Morris and Sauk Centre.

Morris/Chokio-Alberta’s eight-point halftime lead grew to 16 as the Tigers defeated Minnewaska 53-37.

Sydney Joos had 14 points for the Lakers, who dropped to 5-15 overall. Bayley Pooler added 10 points.

Minnewaska held its own against state-ranked Sauk Centre in the second half Tuesday, but couldn’t overcome a 27-12 first half deficit.

Minnewaska scored 16 in the second half, just three fewer than the Mainstreeters.

Sydney Joos led the Lakers in scoring with 13 points and added nine rebounds. She was the only player in double figures for Minnewaska.

Liz Ellens led the Mainstreeters with 14 points.

The Lakers will play Hancock tomorrow, Saturday, at the University of Minnesota-Morris in a 3 p.m. game.
