Boys' basketball: Ashby defeats Henning, Parkers Prairie
The Arrows sneaked past a good Henning team in a 42-41 game on Monday night.
The two teams came into the game with just five losses between them. For the Arrows, the win was their second straight after dropping three of five games after an 8-0 start.
“This was really a defensive battle all night,” Ashby head coach Jeremy Knick said. “Both teams played really hard, and I thought we had good looks throughout the game, but they just weren’t falling tonight.”
Blake Ohren and J.P. Moe continued to lead the way for Ashby. Ohren had 12 points, three rebounds and three steals, while Moe added 11 points, four rebounds and two assists on a night when neither team had a lot working on offense.
“I was really pleased with everyone’s effort and contributions,” Knick said. “I thought Jeff Berglund gave us that boost we needed, providing us with six important points and four rebounds off the bench.”
Ashby 42, Henning 41
ASHBY – Ohren – 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals; Moe – 11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists; Berglund – 6 points, 4 rebounds; Tanner Langlie – 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists; Morgan Wing – 5 points; Gage Olson – 3 points
Parkers Prairie 57
The Ashby boys used an 18-1 run in the second half to cruise to a 77-57 win over Parkers Prairie on Tuesday night.
Ashby led by just five near the 12-minute mark before blowing the game open with that run. Blake Ohren had 24 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. J.P Moe added 23 points. Tanner Langlie finished with 11 and 10 rebounds, while Allard LaRue chipped in nine points, two rebounds and two assists.
“I thought we did a nice job attacking the basket early, which helped free up shooters throughout the game,” Ashby head coach Jeremy Knick said. “There were times defensively that we let up or lost track of their shooters, but then we would make up for it with a good hustle play. Allard LaRue gave us a nice spark off the bench tonight both offensively and defensively.”
