Girls' basketball: Osakis tops Royalton, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle
Led by a defense that had 27 steals, the Osakis girls ran past Royalton for another Prairie Conference win last Thursday in a 48-24 game.
The Silverstreaks had this one wrapped up by halftime when the score was 32-8. Annalise Savageau had a game-high 22 points and 10 steals, while Becka Sadlemyer added 10 points and five takeaways.
“This was a solid win for the team tonight,” head coach Pat Kalpin said. “We were able to build a comfortable lead at halftime and sustain that lead throughout the second half. Defensively, the girls played as well as they have all year long.”
It was the fourth straight win for Osakis after dropping a close game against Parkers Prairie on January 15.

Osakis 54, LPGE?37
The Osakis girls’ basketball team continues to pick up impressive wins that are separating them from every team other than Upsala in the Prairie Conference.
Long Prairie-Grey Eagle is the third-place team in the league but couldn’t keep up with the Silverstreaks for the second time this season. Osakis ran past the Thunder after a slow start to pick up a 54-37 win and move to 15-2 overall and to 9-1 in league play.
Long Prairie-Grey Eagle (11-7, 6-4) jumped out to an 8-0 lead before the Silverstreaks turned things around. They went on to outscore the Thunder 27-11 through the rest of the half to take an eight point lead into the break. The Thunder scored 13 of its 19 points from the free throw line in the first half.
“That was a point of emphasis at halftime, keeping them off the free throw line in the second half,” Osakis head coach Pat Kalpin said. “For the most part, we did a nice job of that.”
The Silverstreaks have had a tendency to have different players step up every night. On Tuesday, it was Becka Sadlemyer’s turn. The senior post finished with a team-high 19 points to go along with five rebounds. Annalise Savageau had 10 points and Brooke Sorenson played the role of distributor with eight assists.
“Becka Sadlemyer played one of her best games of the season on both ends of the court,” Kalpin said. “Her 19 points were key to this win.”
Osakis will have a couple more opportunities to rack up some impressive wins in the next few days. The Silverstreaks will travel to Litchfield (9-7) on Saturday before welcoming in Prairie Conference leader Upsala on Monday night. The Cardinals are 15-1 and 9-0 in league play after beating Osakis 45-37 the first time they met on December 20.
