Girls' basketball: Minnewaska wins one, drops two
Trailing by one at the half, the Minnewaska girls found a higher gear and muscled their way past Benson 62-36 Thursday night.
Benson held a 25-24 halftime lead, but the Lakers clamped down on the Braves’ offense, holding them to just 11 points in the second half.
Sydney Joos, who finished the night with 22 points and six rebounds, led the offensive effort as Minnewaska put up 38 second-half points in the win
Madison Phillips made two nice steals to go with her nine points in the win, and Paige Anderson led the rebounding with nine, adding four points.
The Lakers will host Morris tomorrow night, Thursday.

LAKERS FALL TO SAUK CENTRE, MONTEVIDEO
After winning two contests last week, the Minnewaska Laker girls saw the other side of the coin, falling to Sauk Centre and Montevideo on Monday and Tuesday.
Monday’s contest against Class AA’s No. 7 ranked Mainstreeters brought a scoring drought as Minnewaska had just 14 points at the break, and were held to nine points in the second half in a 54-25 loss.
Paige Anderson led the Lakers with nine points, while Macy Weller and Elizabeth Ellens had 12 and 11, respectively, for the Mainstreeters.
Tuesday, the Lakers took on Montevideo, falling 48-43 as Minnewaska saw its nine-point halftime lead disappear.
The Lakers, who led 26-17 at the half, couldn’t keep up the pace as the Thunder Hawks outscored them 21-17 in the second half as Ashley Hoehne scored 13 of her 15 points in that stanza.
The Lakers got 10 points from Veronica Weisel and 11 rebounds from Sydney Joos.
