Hot tunes. Cool night. Jefferson High School’s annual winter band concert hit all the right notes. Family and music fans poured into the high school gymnasium, filling the bleachers as freezing rains poured down outside Monday night.

The JHS Jazz I and II, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble were joined by a Minneapolis brass group, the Copper Street Brass Quintet (CSBQ). Sponsored in part by the Lake Region Arts Council, the CSBQ taught JHS and Discovery Middle School students during a three-day artist residency from January 28 to January 30. The Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund supported the activity.

CSBQ will perform a capstone concert “Evolution in Concert” on Wednesday, January 30 in the Discovery Middle School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. before leaving town. Tickets are $4 for students and $6 for adults. Sales benefit the JHS music program.
