Alexandria wrestling: Cards fall on tiebreaker

This time, the tiebreaker brought a loss.

Earlier this month, the Cardinal wrestlers saw a tiebreaker go in their favor as they defeated Willmar in Central Lakes Conference wrestling, but Thursday night, a 28-28 deadlock went to the Sartell Sabres.

“Sartell won the dual by virtue of the fourth tiebreaking criteria (most individual matches won, including forfeits),” said Card head coach Tom Ellison. “It was an exciting dual meet for the fans as most matches were very close and decided by a point or two.”

Alexandria had just six wins in the 14 weights, but they produced big points as Ben Bogart’s forfeit and pins from Trent Piepenburg and Justin Cumberbatch earned six points apiece.

Tony Hubbard gave the Cardinals four points with a major decision at 145 pounds and Tristan Johnson and Dustin Neu each had decisions for three points apiece.
