Alexandria, area wrestlers in state polls
The Cardinal wrestling team reached the ranks of the State Class AAA polls recently, making their way onto the Lean and Mean roster (having received votes in the polls).
Individually, the Cardinals have three ranked wrestlers in Trent Piepenburg, No. 5 at 113 pounds; Tony Hubbard, No. 8 at 145 pounds; and Justin Cumberbatch, No. 4 at 220 pounds.
Osakis also made it onto the Lean and Mean standings for Class A, and have three state ranked wrestlers in Brendon Coyer, No. 2 at 106 pounds; Trenton Coyer, No. 10 at 113 pounds; and Garret Scherr, No. 2 at 220 pounds.
Other area wrestlers in the Class A rankings are Minnewaska’s Joseph Weaver, No. 10 at 106 pounds; Ryan Stottler, No. 7 at 160 pounds; Bradley Jacobs, No. 10 at 195 pounds; and Prairie Valley’s Tyler Schlosser, No. 1 at 220 pounds.
Youth basketball
night rescheduled
The Alexandria Youth Basketball Night has been rescheduled for Friday, March 1 during the Cardinal boys’ basketball game against Rocori at 7:30 p.m.
All youth basketball players wearing their youth basketball T-shirt or jersey will receive free admission to the game.
All players will also receive a team photo and varsity players will be signing autographs after the game. Cookie/coffee social will also follow the game in the hallway outside the gym.
Osakis softball camp
Osakis will host a softball tune-up camp presented by the College of St. Scholastics in Duluth and the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph on Saturday-Sunday, March 2-3 at the Osakis High School.
The camp is open to girls in grades 7-12.
Deadline for registration is February 28, with registrations before February 20 receiving a camp T-shirt.

YMCA classes
The Alexandria Area YMCA is offering beginning and advanced gymnastics classes beginning February 26 and running through April 9 for boys and girls ages 18 months and up.

The YMCA is also offering winter youth baseball and softball activities including open gyms, complete with batting cages on Fridays and Sundays.

Redbird competitive youth summer soccer registration
Registration for players interested in Alexandria Area Soccer Association Summer Youth Soccer opens on January 24, with the U11-U19 registration deadline March 1 and the U10 registration deadline April 1.
There will be an informational meeting on February 5 from 7-8 p.m. at the Discovery Middle School cafeteria and a player/parent meeting on March 19 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Discovery Middle School.

Stationary bike race to benefit UCP
United Cerebral Palsy of Central Minnesota (UCP-CM) is hosting its annual stationary bike race, Stuck in Motion, on Saturday, January 26 at the Whitney Recreation Center in St. Cloud.
Teams of 10 will race between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for 20 minutes per rider. Each team raises funds for the programs and services of UCP-CM, which benefit persons with disabilities.
There will be pizza provided by Flying Pig Pizza, entertainment by Music in Motion and chair massages.

Team Extreme Ice Fishing tournaments
Team Extreme Ice Fishing action will continue on Lake Minnewaska in Glenwood on January 27, followed by Pelican Lake in Monticello on February 27, Clearwater Lake in St. Cloud on March 3, Round Lake in Brainerd on March 31 and Mille Lacs Lake in Garrison on April 7.
This is a team event with two anglers per team, with eight crappies and eight sunfish allowed to be weighed in. In the Mille Lacs Lake event, the limit will be 15 perch.
Action will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and there is a limit of 75 teams.

Polar Plunge registration
Registration is now open for the 2013 Alexandria Polar Bear Plunge, presented by Minnesota law enforcement to benefit Special Olympics Minnesota.
The funds raised benefit more than 7,100 Special Olympics Minnesota athletes.
The Alexandria Plunge will be held at the Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center in Alexandria.
The Plunge begins at 1 p.m. on February 24. Check-in will be at the Plunge site.

LAR 35-older open gym
Lakes Area Recreation holds open gym on Sundays for 35-older from 7-9 p.m. at the Discovery Middle School gym, running to the middle of April.
Cost is $3 for adults.

There will be a youth basketball tournament in Montevideo for boys and girls in grades 5-7 on Saturday, March 23.
