Lorn was born January 19, 1934 in Starbuck to Theodore and Irene (Overson) Rostad. He was baptized and confirmed at Barsness Lutheran Church in rural Glenwood. Lorn attended country school at District #37 in Starbuck. He graduated from Starbuck High School in 1951.
Lorn entered the United States Army on January 15, 1958. He served most of his time in Okinawa, working in the Army hospital as hospital corpsman. Lorn was honorably discharged on December 8, 1959.
Lorn was united in marriage to Carolyn Sue Aylesworth at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mt. Pulaski, Illinois on January 28, 1967. This marriage was blessed with two children. They made their home on a farm in Pope County and Lorn farmed and milked cows until 1986. After 1986, he worked at R.C. Machines, Cross Tool and Manufacturing, and CF Industries. He retired in 2003.
Lorn and Sue shared 38 years of marriage before Sue passed away on August 29, 2005.
Lorn loved working outdoors with flowers and also was a stamp collector. He liked watching sports on TV. When Lorn needed assistance with his daily care, he moved into the Glenwood Retirement Village.
Lorn is survived by his children, Duane Rostad of Alexandria, and Kristi (Bob) Wilson of Glenwood; granddaughter, Hailey Rostad and grandson, Brian Wilson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Irene Rostad; his wife, Carolyn Sue Rostad; and sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Knute Rosten.
Funeral services for Lorn were held Monday, January 28 at Barsness Lutheran Church in rural Glenwood with the Rev. Eileen Mehl officiating. Interment was at Barsness Lutheran Cemetery.
