The Evansville Art Center (EAC) in Evansville will present an evening with the Irish band Skilly and Duff on St. Brigid’s Day, Friday, February 1 at 7 p.m.
The Irish trio includes Bruce Kelley and Anne O’Flynn of Elbow Lake and Mikko Cowdery of Osakis.
Karen Howell, president of EAC, said the show runs the gamut from “the ridiculous to the sublime,” ranging from hilarious comedy songs to some of Ireland’s most beautiful and haunting ballads.
The songs will be interwoven with toasts, jokes and stories gathered on the group’s travels through Ireland and the Irish communities of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
The February 1 show is Skilly and Duff’s annual tribute to Ireland’s second most famous saint, Brigid of Kildare, according to Cowdery.
St. Patrick is famous for driving the snakes out of Ireland, while St. Brigid is famed for turning water into beer, Cowdery said. He added that many of his Irish acquaintances feel it would be better to try to live with snakes than to live without beer.
Admission is $10 at the door.
