Scott Qualle, building official for Minnesota municipalities, announced that MNSPECT, a Minnesota building inspection service provider, will offer local continuing education courses designed to meet educational requirements for licensed residential building contractors and remodelers, as well as certified and limited building officials.

Classes are scheduled at Pizza Ranch in Alexandria on Monday, January 28. Available courses are:

• Knowledge is Power series, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (lunch included), $90, will cover contractor licensing rules and regulations.

• MN State Residential Code: Radon Resistant Construction Code, 4 to 5 p.m., $20, will cover how-to’s of passive and active systems, from sub-floor preparation to multiple pipe venting.

The state mandates that contractors take at least 14 hours of continuing education each licensing period. Building officials are required to take 19 hours each year (38 hours for a two-year license).

“Although we can’t go to every city in Minnesota, we would like to be able to meet the contractors at least half way,” said Qualle. He also wants to provide contractors with new topics.

Qualle added that all course instructors are certified building officials for the state of Minnesota.
