Letter - Children's rights must be protected

Child development is the changes that occur while a child grows and develops to be physically healthy, mentally alert, emotionally sound, socially fit and ready to learn.

To the editor:

Child development is the changes that occur while a child grows and develops to be physically healthy, mentally alert, emotionally sound, socially fit and ready to learn.

Many people think that child development is just simply babysitting, but it’s much more than that. Being in the child development field is teaching kids and helping them be better prepared for the future. Studying child development enables us to make sure our children are developing at the right pace.

All children have the right to be raised in a family that can provide them with the right quality of health care, good nutrition, education, play and protection from harm, abuse and discrimination. Growing up in an environment in which they are able to reach their full potential in life is every child’s right.

It is the duty of parents, other caregivers and family members, communities, civil society and government to ensure these rights are protected and fulfilled.
