Boys' basketball: Hoelscher gets first win at Osakis

The Osakis boys were able to get head coach Matt Hoelscher the first win of his varsity coaching career behind its defense last Thursday night.

The Silverstreaks held Eagle Valley to just 11 points in the second half. They needed almost every stop as they held on for a 36-32 win that snapped an 11-game losing streak to start the season.

“The guys played great team basketball,” Hoelscher said. “It was a good chance for them to learn how to play with a lead at the end of the game.”

Kilar Zimmel had almost half of his team’s points after finishing with 16. He shot 7-of-12 from the field, including a 6-of-9 clip from inside the arc. Drew Fearing added seven points. Hunter Scherr finished with five and Lane Berberich and Doug Zimmel each added four.

“It was a total team effort with moving the ball, communicating on defense and helping each other out,” Hoelscher said. “We had good leadership by our seniors. Kilar Zimmel stepped up big time by rebounding, scoring and guarding one of their better players.”
