Alexandria boys' basketball: Cardinals edge Rocori

By: Eric Morken, Alexandria Echo Press

The Alexandria boys’ basketball team used 25 points from junior guard John Vogeler to edge Rocori 55-53 on Tuesday night.

Vogeler said he was still working his way back into game shape after a loss to Willmar last Thursday. It seems he found that with 22 second-half points against the Spartans on Tuesday. Logan Doyle helped him out with 11 points and Brandon Bistodeau added seven as well.

That helped the Cardinals overcome a two-point deficit at the half and a strong game from Rocori’s Jonah Eisenschenk. The senior finished with 23 points, while Zach Templin added 12.

Neither team led by more than five points in a game that was tight from start to finish. It was a much-needed win for Alexandria as the Cardinals snapped a three-game losing streak to move to 4-7 overall and to 2-4 in the Central Lakes Conference.

They had a chance to build on that as they traveled to Fergus Falls last night, Thursday. Alexandria will welcome in St. Cloud Tech for a 3 p.m. tip on Saturday before St. Cloud Apollo comes to town next Tuesday.
