Alex gymnastics: Records fall in Cardinals' win

Behind a new school record in vault both individually by Briquelle Bowden and by her team, the Cardinal girls put up 141.825 points, good for a new school scoring record and a gymnastics win over St. Cloud Apollo Thursday night.

“What a big and exciting win for the Cardinals,” said head coach Becca Cederberg. “The Cardinals posted many personal bests, including a new school team record on vault and a new school record team score. The girls are working very hard on new skills and combinations, and their hard work is paying off.”

Bowden, a senior, set a new school record in the vault, posting a 9.45 to take top honors in that event.

She went on to finish first in every event, using a new personal best on the beam with a 9.45 to earn her the top all-around spot with a new personal best score of 37.175.

Hannah Wendel, a sophomore, was second in the all-around with a personal best 36.725, accumulated on the back of two individual event personal bests – 9.375 on vault and 9.45 on floor – both good for second place. She was also second on bars and beam.

Tahlia Bowden, a freshman, gave the Cardinals a sweep in the all-around as she finished with a 37.4 behind third place finishes on the vault, bars and beam.

Bria Schueler set a personal best on the floor with an 8.8, while Jana Roste set a new personal mark on bars with a 7.775.

The Cardinals, ranked No. 6 in the most recent State Class A polls, will be at Sauk Rapids-Rice tomorrow, Thursday.
