Local Teen Miss Douglas County has worldly cause

Neither snow nor rain nor gloom of night stays Teen Miss Douglas County from serving her public. Neither snow nor rain nor gloom of night stays Teen Miss Douglas County from serving her public. On a rainy Thursday evening in January, Abby Hlinsky received her official banner and was congratulated by Alexandria Mayor Sara Carlson for her accomplishment of becoming Teen Miss Douglas County 2013 at a Kids Against Hunger packaging event in Alexandria.

The food packaged at the Kids Against Hunger warehouse on January 10 will be shipped to Haiti, extending Hlinsky’s local contribution globally. Hlinsky has chosen the fight against hunger as her platform.

“It just seemed like a worthy cause,” Hlinsky said.

Hlinsky will go on to compete in the Teen Miss Minnesota pageant on March 16 and 17 in St. Cloud. She will be competing for a grand prize package and the opportunity to represent Minnesota at the 2013 Teen Miss International Pageant. Abby is the daughter of Steven Hlinsky and attends Jefferson High School in Alexandria.

As Teen Miss Douglas County, Hlinsky is available to make public speaking appearances, presentations and assist with civic and non-profit projects. She has been recognized by the Teen Miss International pageant system for her commitment to professional and community stewardship.

Area businesses have already stepped up to support Hlinsky as she vies for the state crown. Hometown Community Bank of Forada, Special Event Boutique, Ollies Service, American Financial Partners and Strand Electric have joined her friends and family in pledging their support.
