BRECKENRIDGE 74, WEST CENTRAL AREA 57

West Central Area couldn’t stop the post play of the Breckenridge Cowboys, falling 74-57 Tuesday night.

“We had a definite size disadvantage tonight and could not consistently stop their posts in the first half,” said Knight head coach Kraig Hunter. “In the second half, we stopped them from getting the ball inside, but their post players stepped outside and shot the ball very well.”

The Knights trailed by eight at the half after the Cowboys broke a 26-26 tie with less than two minutes remaining.

“We did not shoot the ball well in the second half,” Hunter said. “We also were without two of our starters for much of the half due to foul trouble.

“We have to learn from this game and move on. We need to start playing more consistently as we are kind of up and down right now.”

Leading the way for the Knights was Austin Redepenning with 12 points, while Brady Combs and Dakotah Kashmark had 11 each.

For the Cowboys, Jordan Christenson had 23.

The Knights were at St. John’s Prep last night, Thursday, and will host Upsala tomorrow, Saturday. They will host Ashby on Monday.

BATTLE LAKE 72, ASHBY 40

The Ashby boys’ basketball team couldn’t keep up with a now 10-2 Battle Lake team as the Battlers ran past the Arrows 72-40 on Tuesday night.

“This was a tough night for us,” Ashby head coach Jeremy Knick said. “Battle Lake out-worked us in every aspect of the game. They won the battle of the boards, they moved the ball well on offense, they made hustle plays and they worked hard and talked on defense. If we are going to compete with teams like Battle Lake, we are going to have to play much better defensively and much more like a team.”

Blake Ohren was the only Ashby player in double figures with 15 points. He added six rebounds and three assists. Tanner Langlie finished with eight points, six rebounds and two assists, while J.P. Moe chipped in six points and three boards.
