To the editor:
Memo to Congress: Govern. You were elected to Congress by the American people and are being paid to do a job. The American people are tired of being run over a fiscal cliff. You know when the deadlines are scheduled. Pass a bill before the deadline.
America is a functional country being governed by a dysfunctional Congress. America, which is supposed to be a shining example of democracy to the rest of the world, is a laughing stock. No one is impressed by brinksmanship.
How about this method for solving our problems:
1. Identify the basic problem.
2. Research the solutions to the problem. Look at history. Use the Congressional Budget Office for your primary source of information, as they are nonpartisan.
3. Identify the solution, or combination of solutions, that have the highest chance of success.
4. Make the best solution into law, regardless of whether it fits the conservative or liberal ideology.
While I don’t fault any of our local politicians, our country cannot continue to be held hostage by a radical minority that refuses to compromise. We deserve better.
