Alexandria AAUW meeting focuses on Hildegard of Bingen

In May 2012, Pope Benedict XVI formally declared 12th century Benedictine nun Hildegard of Bingen a canonized saint. He regarded her as a great thinker who helped shape the thought of the Catholic Church.

The next meeting of the Alexandria Area Branch American Association of University Women will be held Thursday, January 17 at 5:30 p.m.

The program for the evening will be on Hildegard of Bingen and will be presented by Margaret Schroeder.

In May 2012, Pope Benedict XVI formally declared 12th century Benedictine nun Hildegard of Bingen a canonized saint. He regarded her as a great thinker who helped shape the thought of the Catholic Church.

Today, there are many websites and Hildegard groups that celebrate and honor Hildegard’s teachings, philosophy, art and music. Schroeder poses the question, “Can the wisdom of a 12th century mystic teach us any lessons for today’s world?”

Schroeder, who recently studied Hildegard, believes the answer is yes.

Guests are welcome. Those interested in attending should call Julie Zuehlke at (320) 763-7789 for more information.
