Letter - Are we really all as mentally balanced as we should be?

With my husband and myself being mental health patients, I would like to express my opinion on the terrible school shootings.

To the editor:

With my husband and myself being mental health patients, I would like to express my opinion on the terrible school shootings. Everyone has their thoughts about what should have been done to prevent further killings of all kinds.

How come no one knew anything – except the mother was a part-time teaching aide and she home-schooled the son? No one knew anything more about either of them, except the mother legally purchased three deadly guns.

How come there weren’t friends or acquaintances from the neighborhood, school, churches and community as a whole? Was it their fault only? They apparently weren’t the kind of people to receive credits or honors of the world values.

I agree that mental health patients shouldn’t be allowed to buy guns. However, what about the mother buying these guns legally with no problem? Could it be, some guns should be outlawed to public purchase and all people should be limited as to how many guns of any kind they can purchase and have in their homes?

Along with this whole episode brings a thought to mind: Have you thanked and given credit and smiles, not just complaints or criticism, to each member in your own home and outside the home, no matter how little the task or good disposition they show us? Do you value a small task or just those big ones and those of monetary value?

Are we really all as mentally balanced as we should be in this world? Maybe it’s meant to be a lesson for everyone to shape up; and not just our figure. Maybe the mentally ill person isn’t the only problem to be considered in the matter.
