Letter - Activities also promote positive relationships in family

To the editor:
Children who consistently spend more than four hours per day watching TV are more likely to be overweight. As students in the child development program at Alexandria Technical and Community College, the health and wellness of children are important to us. Getting children away from the screen and becoming more active is a great way to promote good health and wellness.
Even though it is cold outside, there are many ways a child can be active both inside and outside. Sledding, walk the dog, go to the park, build snow forts and snowmen, ice fishing, skating and hockey are just a few outdoor possibilities. Some indoor options include baking, board games, blanket forts, crafts and imaginative free play.
Not only do activities promote good health and wellness, but also promote positive relationships with the family.
