Boys' basketball: West Central Area holds off Brandon-Evansville

The West Central Area boys used their experience on the perimeter to fend off Brandon-Evansville in a 65-53 game on Tuesday night.
The Chargers used a 6-0 run heading into the half to make it a two-point game at the break. The Knights responded with an eight-point run of their own to start the second half. They kept Brandon-Evansville at an arm’s length after that as WCA moved to 6-4 on the season.
“We have a lot of respect for the Chargers,” Knights’ head coach Kraig Hunter said. “They fought hard the whole game and were hard to put away. The Chargers’ coaching staff gets a lot out of their players, and they have one of the best players in the area in John Haseman.”
Haseman did his part with another double-double of 26 points and 14 rebounds. Patrick Schaffer added 10 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Billie Juul chipped in nine points as well.
The Knights had a little too much in the backcourt for Brandon-Evansville. Dakotah Kashmark matched Haseman with 26 points. He added 11 rebounds and six assists, while Drew Peterson poured in 22 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
“They have a lot of quickness in their backcourt,” Chargers’ head coach John Holsten said. “Kashmark is as good a guard as there is in the area. Drew Peterson is their point guard and is a really steady player. Those two were tough for us to deal with.”
The loss dropped Brandon-Evansville to 4-6 overall.
