The Echo Press will continue to be the publication in which Douglas County will publish legal notices in the coming year. The cost of $11.47 per inch is a 2 percent increase from 2012 rates. The Echo Press, designated as the official newspaper of Douglas County, was the only publication to submit a bid.
Two oil change and minor maintenance bids were received for vehicles used by the social services department, public health, the assessor’s office, land and resource and the sheriff’s office. The current provider, Shutters Tire and Auto, was awarded the service contract.
A five-quart oil change for county vehicles with minor maintenance such as belts, hoses, vacuuming and window washing will run $15 with an additional $3 charge for an additional quart of oil, the same rate as last year. Shutters in Alexandria also offered routine mechanical services at $30 an hour and diagnostic mechanical repairs at a rate of $30 per hour.
Dave Rush, Douglas County land and resource management director, said that bids for mechanical and diagnostic services won’t be accepted at this time because many of the vehicles are under warranty, but as the fleet ages, it may be something to look into in the future.
Nokomis Auto Service in Alexandria also submitted a bid. The oil change service with Nokomis was for $23.95 plus $2.95 for additional quarts of oil. Routine mechanical services were bid at $70 per hour; diagnostic mechanical repairs would cost $44.95 per hour.
