The Brandon-Evansville girls’ basketball team has climbed all the way out of an 0-5 hole to reach the .500 mark with its fifth straight win on Tuesday night.
The Chargers trailed 8-0 against Hillcrest Lutheran Academy but turned that around for a 56-24 win. They led 19-12 at the half and expanded that with a 37-point second half behind a 45 percent shooting night from the field.
“We had a slow start again,” head coach Dick Simpson said. “We just missed shots and then we kind of caught fire. We had eight different players score, so that was nice. Kids came off the bench for 22 points.”
Megan Friedrich has put together a nice senior season and that continued against the Comets. She finished with a game-high 17 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists. Carrigan Okerlund added nine points, Megan Kokett eight and Elizabeth Vinson and Emma Friedrich each had seven.
The win moved the Chargers to 3-2 in the Little Eight Conference. They will try to expand on that when they travel to Battle Lake (3-7) tonight, Friday, for another LEC contest. They will then welcome in Ortonville (4-6) next Monday.
