Despite missing one of their teammates, the Cardinal dance team finished fifth as it faced some of the top teams from their section at Sauk Rapids Tuesday night.
“The team had another top-notch kick performance, despite missing Shelby Steidl due to an injury,” said head coach Christine Reilly. “Missing a team member really affects formations and certainly has a negative effect on the team’s scores in choreography and formations.
“However, the girls stayed positive and focused on having a strong performance,” she continued. “The girls were excited to place fifth in kick, beating St. Cloud Apollo and Pequot Lakes.
“The girls are determined to move up in the ranks this year, and so last night was a victory.”
Sartell captured first place, while St. Cloud Cathedral was second, Rocori was third, Sauk Rapids fourth, Alexandria fifth, St. Cloud Apollo sixth and Pequot Lakes seventh.
“The Card girls had a good performance in jazz as well, but did not match up with the difficulty in jazz skills of the competitors last night,” said Reilly. “The team is doing well with improving [its] strength and skills in jazz, and so was pleased with [its] performance.”
Sartell was first in the jazz portion of the competition, with St. Cloud Cathedral second, Rocori third, Pequot Lakes fourth, Sauk Rapids fifth, St. Cloud Apollo sixth and Alexandria seventh.
The Cardinals will be at Rocori tomorrow, Saturday, for a competition.
