Alexandria girls' hockey: Cardinals skate past River Lakes 4-1
Jost made 17 savse in goal for the RedbirdsBy: Lori Mork, Alexandria Echo Press
Amy Jost may be just a freshman, but in the net, she has a veteran presence.
Jost ranks No. 7 among all goaltenders in the state in goals against average at 1.26, and is also seventh in save percentage at .940.
That presence helped the Cardinal girls’ hockey team to yet another win, this time a 4-1 victory over Rocori-River Lakes in Central Lakes Conference action as she stopped 17 shots on goal.
The win boosted Alexandria to 9-5-2 overall and 5-1-2 in CLC play, good for second place in the standings.
Offensively, Alexandria once again relied on the line of Shelby Iverson, Becca Illies and Anna Carlsen, who gave the Cardinals three of their four goals on the night.
Iverson had a pair of those as she scored at 15:02 in the first period and again at 8:48 in the third with both of her goals coming off assists from Illies.
Illies notched the first goal of the game just 27 seconds into the first period on an assist from Iverson, and Shaneé Herd had the only other goal of the game.
“Shaneé scored as she got the puck deep in the offensive zone and carried it to the slot, setting herself up to deliver a high, hard shot that scored our third goal,” said head coach Andy Shriver.
“Just four weeks out from playoff seeding, the team appears to be gaining momentum, and although winning three out of three games in 2013, the players are also taking notes and building the agenda for the work yet to be done.”
Carley Roda scored the lone goal for River Lakes in the second period.
Alexandria will host Brainerd/Little Falls on Tuesday.
