Blizzard hockey: Coenen named NA3HL Defenseman of the Month
The Blizzard’s Chayce Coenen has left his mark in Alexandria since coming over from Quad City in a trade earlier this season, and he was rewarded for that by being named the NA3HL Defenseman of the Month in December.
Coenen has 16 points on seven goals and nine assists since coming to Alexandria. He racked up 13 points in nine games in December as the Blizzard went 5-4-0 as a team. The Des Moines, Iowa native had four multi-point games during that stretch and is a +15 when on the ice for Alexandria. His 19 total points puts him in the top seven in the league in scoring for defensemen.
“He’s really deserving,” head coach Jeff Crouse said of Coenen’s recognition. “He’s been at Quad City. He was there last year and he just kind of said, ‘I want to get somewhere where I can compete and win.’ He’s really stepped up after I lost Spencer Peratalo to Brookings. He took his spot and stepped in and became a leader. He’s added a little offensive firepower from the blue line.”
