Vernon “Pete” Peterson, 70, Alexandria, died January 7, 2013 at his home.

Vernon was born in Pelican Rapids on February 3, 1942 to Ernest and Gerda (Johnson) Peterson of Evansville.

He married Sandra Jean Beulke on December 21, 1963 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Shortly after their marriage, Sandy and Vern moved to rural Miltona. In 1965, the couple moved to Litchfield for his job at Midwest Inseminators. In 1966, they moved to Garfield, where they resided until 1987 when they moved to Lake Ida.

Vern worked for Minnesota Harvester, had a car lot and worked at Lake Region Cooperative until he retired. On the side, Vern did farming with his youngest son.

Vern enjoyed visits to the casino, playing cards, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends.

Vern is survived by his wife, Sandy; sons, Allan (Naomi) Peterson of Alexandria, Jeffrey “Buck” (Mary) Peterson of Garfield; daughter, Brenda (Marlin Sobania) Peterson; grandchildren, Sadie Peterson, Chelsea Peterson, Zach Peterson, Kaitlynne Peterson, Colby Peterson, Cheyanne Peterson; great-grandchildren, Tucker Fick and Alexis Considine; sisters, Evelyn Peterson and Eleanor Peterson; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Beulke and Elaine Beulke; and nephews, Keith Hallquist and Harlan Hallquist.

Vern was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ernest Peterson and Gerda (Johnson) Peterson; sister, Lillian Hallquist; brother-in-law, Emmett Hallquist; an infant brother; mother-in-law and father in law, Henry Beulke and Alma (Meyer) Beulke; and granddaughter, Bobbi Jo Peterson.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 10 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Garfield. Honorary pallbearers were Sadie Peterson, Kaitlynne Peterson, Colby Peterson and Cheyanne Peterson. Pallbearers were Chelsea Peterson, Zach Peterson, Lowell Nokes, Randy Anderson, Roger Josephson and Harvey Chermak. Burial was at Mound Grove Cemetery in Evansville.
