Funeral services will be held Friday, January 11 at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with the Rev. William Stockman officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Kristi Wussow. Burial will take place at Parkers Prairie Cemetery.
Pallbearers are her grandsons, Michael David Diedrich, Ryan Diedrich, Cody Meyer, Wade Meyer, Jacob Lewis, Lance Diedrich and C.J. Senger. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters, Amanda Karsch, Jeanne Steidl, Amanda Mercado, Christine Friday, Shannon Diedrich, Tara Luedloff, Trish Lewis, Hailey Ness and Teagan Diedrich.
Visitation is Thursday, January 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Bernice was born December 15, 1925 to Otto and Clara (Brockopp) Grothen in Folden Township, Otter Tail County. She grew up on the family farm in Miltona Township and attended Country School District #73. Following her education, she worked at Parkers Prairie Creamery and Anderson's Café.
She was united in marriage to Harold Diedrich on November 16, 1947 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Parsonage in West Miltona.
Following their marriage, they moved to Fargo where she worked as a waitress. They returned six months later to the Brockopp family farm in Otter Tail County. They purchased the Dreger family farm in 1955, where they lived and farmed until their retirement in 1992. Following their retirement, they moved into Miltona, where they lived until Bernice moved to Knute Nelson in Alexandria in March of 2009.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in West Miltona and the Miltona V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, cooking, flower and vegetable gardening.
Bernice is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harold, of Miltona; two sons, Michael (Terry) Diedrich of Garfield and Kelly (Michelle) Diedrich of Belgrade; three daughters, Karen (Paul Ditty) Diedrich of Alexandria, Brenda (David) Aydelotte of Cumberland, Maryland and Susan (Barry) Ness of Alexandria; brothers, Gilbert (Ethel) Grothen of Parkers Prairie and Kenneth (Ardith) Grothen of Hanley Falls; sisters, Verna (Delmar) Wilke and Carol (Richard) White, both of Parkers Prairie; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; along with a large extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Norma and Evelyn; brother, Melvin; son, Ronald and daughter, Terry.
