Garfield Elementary School was the recipient of a grant given by the Alexandria Rotary Club.
The donated money was used to purchase 89 books, directed at engaging boys in reading, for the Garfield Media Center.
The Guys Reading program was used as a model. Statistics show that it is important to have a variety of reading materials that appeal to boys’ interests to help them become lifelong readers.
All of the books have been integrated into the collection and are increasing readership, according to Garfield staff.
