Letter - What is effect of eating fish exposed to Zequanox?

Why was there no assurance given on human consumption of fish exposed to Zequanox?

To the editor:

Why was there no assurance given on human consumption of fish exposed to Zequanox? Because the fish fails to die within 24 hours after exposure doesn’t mean its flesh hasn’t taken up the molluscicide. The effect of the molluscicide on humans after consuming the flesh may be much different than on zebra mussels.

Does Zequanox kill all species of mussels? If so, what is the environmental impact?

If Zequanox results in a 97.1 percent mortality, 2.9 percent remain alive. Considering zebra mussels’ prolific rate of reproduction, how quickly will they return to the original infestation numbers?

The DNR is sick of zebra mussels and wants the whole problem to disappear. Marrone Bio Innovations anticipates a windfall if the molluscicide is approved. My hope would be that in our elevated excitement, we reach a scientifically sound conclusion.
