Boys' basketball: Osakis falls

The Osakis boys ran into another strong team as they searched for their first win of the season last Thursday night.
The Silverstreaks came off their holiday break by playing a 7-2 Battle Lake team. Five days later, Osakis welcomed in an unbeaten Upsala team that handed the Silverstreaks an 80-38 loss that knocked them to 0-8 on the season.
Sometimes, a team has to tip its cap to an opponent. That’s exactly what head coach Matt Hoelscher did after his team’s loss to the seventh-ranked Cardinals.
“We played with them the first few minutes,” Hoelscher said. “Our energy the entire game was great, but Upsala is a great team that plays full-court pressure, and they attack the basket and can shoot from the outside.”
Osakis couldn’t keep up with two players finishing in double figures. Drew Fearing had a team-high 11 points, while Doug Zimmel added 10. The Silverstreaks shot 42 percent from the field (15-35) and a solid 5-of-9 from beyond the arc.
“I was very pleased at how well we ran our offense,” Hoelscher said. “Offensively, we did what we wanted to do, run some clock and make them play defense and make sure we got great shots.”
Osakis had a chance to pick up its first win of the season against a 3-5 St. John’s Prep team last night, Tuesday. The Silverstreaks will then travel to Browerville this Friday before welcoming in second-ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa next Monday.
