Girls' basketball: Osakis sinks St. John's Prep

The Silverstreaks improved to 8-1 with the win

By: Eric Morken, Alexandria Echo Press

The Osakis girls never let St. John’s Prep believe they had a chance to pull off an upset in the first game back from the holiday break last Friday.

The Silverstreaks jumped all over a 1-9 Johnnies team by taking a 37-8 lead into the break. Osakis carried that to a 57-18 win that moved the Streaks to 8-1 on the season and to a 4-1 mark in league play.

“This was a solid win for our team tonight,” head coach Pat Kalpin said. “After not playing for two weeks, the girls were eager to get out there and play a game again. I thought our energy level was high the whole game. We took care of the basketball and defended very well.”

Osakis had 10 players score on a night when the Silverstreaks shot 42 percent from the field (21-49). Annalise Savageau was the catalyst on both ends of the court with a team-high 18 points and seven steals. Madi Forsell added eight points, while Becka Sadlemyer finished with six points and six rebounds.

“It was nice to see so many girls get into the scoring column again for us and contribute in positive ways for us,” Kalpin said. “With taking that much time off in between games, it almost felt like a first game of the year again for us. Overall, a great team effort for us and win.”

The victory came before Osakis jumped into the middle of a difficult portion of the schedule. The Silverstreaks were scheduled to be at Sauk Centre (9-0) last night, Tuesday, before going to Browerville (5-6) on Thursday. They will then welcome in undefeated and eighth-ranked Parkers Prairie (11-0) next Tuesday night.
