Alexandria wresting: Cards take two titles

Trent Piepenburg and Justin Cumberbatch brought back individual championships from the Foley Invitational Saturday, led the Cardinal wrestlers to a ninth place team finish.

Piepenburg defeated Class A’s No. 7 ranked wrestler in the championship by a close 4-3 decision to pick up his victory, while Cumberbatch had to hold off Adam Treptau of Buffalo, ranked No. 9 at 220 pounds, 5-3 in the semifinals before defeating No. 10 ranked Bryce Kirchner of St. Cloud Apollo in the title match up, pinning him in 1:31.

Ben Bogart, 106 pounds, finished fifth; Blake Olhausen, 126 pounds, was sixth; Shawn Nelson, 195 pounds, was seventh; Tristan Johnson, 138 pounds and Mike Schluter, 170 pounds, were eighth.

The Cardinals will be at Fergus Falls tomorrow, Thursday.
