Leone Louise Raap, 100, died December 29, 2012.

Leone was born April 9, 1912 in Harrison Township near Atwater, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Feig) Toensing. Leone’s family moved to a farm near Alexandria. She became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. She attended school in Alexandria.

Leone’s father and Leonard Raap built a new home in Alexandria. On August 5, 1934 Leone was united in marriage to Leonard at Zion Lutheran Church. Following their honeymoon, the couple moved into that new home. Leone lived there until a few years after Leonard’s death in 1986. Leone and Leonard were blessed with one daughter, Concordia “Connie.”

The family loved to spend summers at their cottage on Lake L’Homme Dieu. Leone was an excellent cook and baker. She liked to read and play cards. Leone was a woman of strong faith. Her church family was very important to her. She enjoyed participating in all of the church events, was a member of the Ladies Aid, and volunteered her time to her church whenever she could. Leone was Zion Lutheran Church‘s longest continuous member; she was a member for 98-1/2 years.

Leone was a loving mother and loved caring for her daughter. Connie was proud to be spoiled by her mother; she was Leone’s most precious treasure in life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; one brother, Allen Toensing; one sister, Ardis Bakke; and one son-in-law, Sterling Borcherding.

Her daughter, Concordia Borcherding of St. Louis Park, and her nieces and nephews survive Leone. She was a beloved mother and a friend to many.

A funeral service was held Thursday, January 3 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The Rev. David Hinz and the Rev. Terry Finnern officiated. Mertice Brueske provided music. Interment followed at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Casket bearers included Stephen Unruh, Quentin Krengel, Michael Ondracek, Bradley Bakke, Trevor Unruh and Brennan Unruh.

Memorials are preferred to Connie Borcherding, 1357 Pennsylvania Ave. S. #201, St. Louis Park, MN 55426. Connie will distribute them to her designated charities.
