With the start of a brand new year, why not wipe the slate clean with some positive thinking?
Too often, we let other people’s snide remarks or our own negative thinking cloud our ability to feel good about ourselves, the world and other people.
Don’t let that happen in 2013. Let’s replace cynical pessimism and defeatist attitudes with a new upbeat approach. Here are some quotes to help guide the way:
“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” – Winston Churchill
“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” – Albert Einstein
“The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible and achieves the impossible.” – Unknown Author
“Once you start to replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.” – Willie Nelson
“Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness.” – Oprah Winfrey
“If you don’t think every day is a good day, just try missing one.” – Cavett Robert
“Oh, my friend, it’s not what they take away from you that counts, it’s what you do with what you have left.” – Hubert Humphrey
“A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” – Ronald Dahl
“If you don’t like something, change it; if you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” – Mary Engelbreit.
“So oftentimes it happens, that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we have the key.” – The Eagles, Already Gone
“Every thought is a seed. If you plant crab apples, don’t count on harvesting Golden Delicious.” – Bill Meyer
“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” – Oscar Wilde, Lady Windermere’s Fan
“Defeat is not bitter unless you swallow it.” – Joe Clark
“The only disability in life is a bad attitude.” – Scott Hamilton
“I don’t like that man. I must get to know him better.” – Abraham Lincoln
“Got no checkbooks, got no banks. Still, I’d like to express my thanks – I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night.” Irving Berlin, I Got the Sun in the Morning
“I don’t think of all the misery but of the beauty that still remains.” – Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl
“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn how to surf.” – Jon Kabat-Zinn
“Change your thoughts and you can change your world.” – Norman Vincent Peale
“When you feel dog tired at night, it may be because you’ve growled all day long.” – Author Unknown
“Attitude to me is more important than facts...We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the string we have, and that is our attitude.” – Charles Swindoll
“It’s snowing still,” said Eeyore gloomily. “So it is.” “And freezing.” “Is it?” “Yes,” said Eeyore. “However,” he said, brightening up a little, “we haven’t had an earthquake lately.”
In 2013, let’s all laugh a little more and complain a little less. Let’s count our own blessings, not other people’s faults.
Or if you’re still feeling a little curmudgeonly, follow these words attributed to a little-known German painter, Herm Albright: “A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.”
