UPDATE 12:35 P.M. FRIDAY: Evansville man dies in machinery accident in Alexandria

A 50-year-old Evansville man died in work-related machinery accident at the Pope Douglas Solid Waste Management (PDSWM) facility Thursday night.

Alexandria police officers responded to the scene at 2115 Jefferson Street at about 9 p.m. The initial report was that a man had fallen from a ladder.

Upon arriving, officers learned that an employee, Tim Allen Anderson, had been crushed by a piece of machinery, a hydraulic ram mechanism, and was unconscious.

Officers and North Memorial Ambulance paramedics administered first aid but Anderson died at the scene.

The incident is still under investigation, according to Alexandria Police Chief Richard Wyffels.

Pete Olmscheid, PDSWM executive director, said that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been contacted and it will be conducting an investigation today.

Anderson was working a night shift at the facility, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, according to Olmscheid. He worked at PDSWM for 21 years.

"Tim was a very good long-term employee. A very good friend also," said Olmscheid. "He was always dependable and friendly."

"A very nice man, a good family man," added Donna Pedersen, PDSWM office manager.

Anderson was actively involved in the Evansville community and served on the Evansville Fire Department.
