Letter - The greatest gift of all

To the editor:
My daughter wrote this for me at Christmas 1995. I was gravely ill and had started to slowly recover. That was my first cancer and now I’ve been diagnosed with cancer for the third time. I found this and thought how profound it is. Maybe there are some people who need a little hug, a little smile, or most of all, some faith. ‘Tis the season!

The Greatest Gift of All
Snow is falling, temperatures are freezing.
Winter has arrived, Christmas time is calling.
Bustling shoppers are busy at the mall,
Children wait in long lines to see Santa.
It’s time to celebrate Christ’s birth.
So I’m thanking God for the greatest gift of all.
The Christmas tree stands seven-feet tall.
Presents are bountiful beneath it.
Which ones are mine? It doesn’t matter.
Because I’ve already been given the greatest gift of all.
You may ask, what is the greatest gift of all?
Life is what I hope everyone’s answer would be.
And that is why this Christmas is extra special for me.
You see, because God saved my mom’s life for me.
