Letter - Child abuse casts a shadow the length of a lifetime
Have you ever thought about how many children are being abused, neglected or die each day?
To the editor:
Have you ever thought about how many children are being abused, neglected or die each day? According to the Children’s Defense Fund, a child is abused or neglected every two hours and every 24 hours a child dies before his or her first birthday. Children who are abused can carry it with them for the rest of their lives. A quote from Herbert Ward says this perfectly: “Child abuse casts a shadow the length of a lifetime.”
We may not see the marks on a child because abuse is not only physical. As adults and child care professionals, we need to watch for all types of warning signs and report any signs of abuse we see.
For more information on warning signs, visit www.childwelfare.gov.
Any signs ignored will only hurt the child more and can lead to the death of another child.
