Sandwiched in between eight goals by Hopkins, including a hat trick by Nina Rodgers in the first period, Alexandria picked up its sole goal of the game in the second period as Shelby Iverson scored on a power play.
Iverson’s goal came on an assist by Anna Carlsen as the Cardinals fell 8-1.
“Hopkins is by far the best team, with the best player that we have seen in two years, and provided a rare opportunity to learn about ourselves,” said head coach Andy Shriver.
The Royals are ranked No. 11 in the State Class AA polls, and are 11-2 after Thursday night’s win, while the Cardinals, ranked No. 18 in Class A, fell to 6-5-2 overall.
Alexandria will host Fergus Falls on Thursday, January 3.
