Alexandria boys' hockey: Cardinals top Sauk Rapids-Rice
The Alexandria boys’ hockey team bounced back nicely from a shutout loss last Tuesday to earn a 6-1 win over Sauk Rapids-Rice on Thursday.
The Cardinals methodically moved their way past the Storm. They led 1-0 after the first period and 3-0 after the second. Alexandria then put the finishing touches on the win with a three-goal third period.
“Good habits returned after a tough outing with St. Cloud Apollo on Tuesday night,” head coach Scott Woods said. “Puck movement, pace of play and overall teamwork gave the Cards their fourth win of the year.”
Six different players scored for Alexandria. Junior forward Levi McFarlane and sophomore forward Zach Johnson scored the first varsity goals of their careers. Chris Leary, Toby Helgeson, Matt Resch and Parker Revering also added goals for the Cardinals. Ryan Marciniak finished with two assists, as well.
Ben Allen was strong in net on his way to the win. He finished with 15 saves and allowed just one goal late in the third period with the game already in hand.
