Daphne Bakke, 92

Daphne (Langhough) Bakke, 92, died December 20, 2012 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria.

Daphne was born to Emil and Ida (Olson) Langhough on September 9, 1920 in Fergus Falls. She grew up on a farm in Evansville Township, attended rural school in Douglas County and graduated from the eighth grade at District #32. Daphne then graduated from Brandon High School and furthered her education with a degree in elementary education from St. Cloud State University. She began her teaching career in Farwell and then in Hoffman and Sauk Centre.

On June 24, 1945, Daphne married Stanley Bakke at Farwell Lutheran Church. They farmed in Solem Township until 1955 when they moved to their farm in Evansville Township. Daphne taught students in Kensington and Evansville. Stanley died in 1981. Daphne stayed on the farm until 1986, when she moved to Alexandria.

She is survived by her children, John of Fargo, Ann (Merle) Erickson of St. Joseph, and Mary (Paul) Jans of Fulda. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dawn (Brian) Klebig, Matthew Erickson, Heidi Erickson, Kyle Jans, Adam Jans, and Jarred Jans; and three great-grandchildren, Aiden and Isaiah Jans and Brynn Klebig; as well as her sister, Adeline Stockdill of Kirkland, WA; niece, Ruth Stockdill and nephew, Richard Stockdill.

Her Lord and her family gave her the most joy and were her top priority. She was involved in church, community, pro-life activities and in helping others. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Alexandria.

Funeral services were held December 26 at Alexandria Evangelical Covenant Church in Alexandria with the Rev. John LeVahn officiating. Music was provided by Tim Erickson, soloist, and Keith Martinson, organist. Interment was at Mound Grove Cemetery in Evansville, with Bob Benz, Will Betterman, Dave Egge, Chuck Erickson, Marvin Martinson, Tim Philbrick, Bonn VanderTuin and Woody Wagner serving as casket bearers. Daphne’s six grandchildren and son-in-law, Brian Klebig served as honorary casket bearers.
